The Academy of Fine Arts moved from Sörnäinen to Vallila at the end of January. The new facility at Elimäenkatu 25 is a former industrial space that has been converted into a loft-type office space.
The Academy has teaching and workspace on six floors.
The vibrant area of Vallila is within good transport connections, and the Academy joins a wide range of creative-field operators concentrating in the area, such as the Artists’ Association of Finland, which has its studios in the area, and the Vallila vocational school
The Academy of Fine Arts will be residing on Elimäenkatu for the next few years. The final location for the Academy premises will be decided on as part of a comprehensive spatial solution for the entire University of the Arts.
The new library opens
The library of the Theatre Academy has undergone a complete revamp. More open-space and airy, the refurbished library opened to the public in March. The Theatre Academy library is the only research library in its field in Finland and the performing arts collection is the most extensive in the country.
The academy libraries of the University of the Arts Helsinki and their unique collections are open to anyone interested in the disciplines. The libraries are located adjacent to the respective academies, at the Theatre Academy in Sörnäinen, the Academy of Fine Arts in Vallila and the Sibelius Academy in the Helsinki Music Centre.
